Joey B. Banks,
drums, received his first drum kit when he was six. At nine he joined
the Madison jr, Scouts drum and bugle corps. A big part of his early
development as a drummer was marching in drum corps from 1975-1979 with
the Madison jr. Scouts and snare drum from 1980-86 with the Madison
Scouts. In 1987-1989, Joey B. studied at the Musicians Institute of
Technology in downtown Los Angeles. He has performed with Luther
Allison, Koko Taylor, Jimmy Johnson, Lonnie Brooks and Jim Schwall of
the National act, Siegel/Schwall band. In 1996 he had the pleasure of
backing up two of the most influential R&B groups of all time, the
Spinners and the Four Tops. Joey B. performs in his own groups, the
Black N' Blues All Stars which features drummer the original funky
drummer, Clyde Stubblefield, and some of the best funk, blues, and jazz
players around the Madison/Milwaukee and Chicago area, and his cover
band "Joey B's Playground". Joey B. also currently performs as a
sideman with some of Chicago's best blues performers out there today,
players like Billy Flynn, Barrellhouse Chuck, Tom Holland, Pistol Pete,
Billy Branch, Lindsey Alexander, and John Primer have all performed with
Joey B. as the drummer of choice. When Joey B. isn't playing with
Charles Walker band, you can catch with the Madison band Honor Among
Thieves, Tony Brown and the 608 Riddem section,or Grammy nominated
guitarist Bobby Messano.
